	Reading the Image is a visual literacy project initiated by Dr. Ann Davis, Director of The Nickle Arts Museum, Dr. Ann Calvert, Dean of Fine Arts at The University of Calgary, and Dr. Jennifer Eiserman, sessional instructor in Art Education and Museum and Heritage Studies. We develop unique three part programs in which highly trained educators conduct art making workshops and museum tours for school students. Our aim is to teach children about concepts, techniques and influential personalities that they frequently encounter in exhibitions of contemporary and historical artworks. We provide teachers with the skills and understanding to teach about the function of images and symbols in contemporary society.
